Thirty-nine ingredients in this one, and all of them are printed below. The two worth knowing about are where the list starts and how much of the active is in there.

  • 2% Bidens pilosa extract, the romerillo
  • 1st aloe juice, ahead of water

Most moisturizers list water first, because most moisturizers are mostly water. This one lists aloe juice first and water seventh. You can check that in about ten seconds.

There's a rose-geranium note in this one. It carries geraniol, citronellol, linalool and citral, all naturally occurring in the essential oil. They're printed here so you can check before you buy rather than find out afterwards.

Bidens pilosa grows wild across Puerto Rico. It reaches the same receptors in your skin that retinol reaches, from a different direction.

Is there vitamin C in this?

Technically yes, and we don't count it. Ascorbyl palmitate is on the list at number 27. At that position it's doing an antioxidant's job, keeping the oils stable, rather than working as an active on your skin. Plenty of brands would put it on the front of the bottle. We'd rather you buy this for the romerillo.

Why 39 ingredients when the sérum has 19?

Because they're different kinds of thing. The sérum is an oil, and oils don't need much holding together. This is a cream, which means water and oil kept stable in the same jar, and that takes emulsifiers, thickeners and preservation to do safely. Thirty-nine is ordinary for a cream. All of them are printed above.

Do I need Lumina Sérum as well?

No. This works on its own as a moisturizer. They're built to be layered, the sérum underneath and this over it, and together they're $10 less than buying them separately. Starting with one is a perfectly reasonable way to begin.
